Slidetackle Magazine understands the importance of gaining real-world experience while pursuing a degree(s) in higher education. As such, we have developed some very interesting and challenging internships for self-motivated students.

Slidetackle Magazine Internships allow students to develop their skills in a real work environment, while maintaining freedom and independence to concentrate on education. We encourage creativity, humor, and productivity.

At the end of the internship, interns will receive a small stipend and letter of recommendation for any purpose, with the option to stay on STM if both parties agree to continue the working relationship. Slidetackle Magazine is an equal opportunity employer.

We are currently accepting applications for the following internship positions:

  • Position: Site Writer/Editor
  • Position: Web/Graphic Designer
  • Position: Photographer

    Position: Web /Graphic Designer (two positions available)
    Internships Length: 3 - 6 Months - to be negotiated
    Average Hours Per Week: Range 2 - 10 hours

Job Description - This is great chance to work on skills learned in the classroom in a real environment. This is a telecommute position. The candidate will need to have his or her own computer, Internet connection, email address, and necessary software applications. As an STM Graphic Designer Intern, you will report directly to the Sr. Art Director on all matters pertaining to site graphics, photos, etc.

The intern will have the flexibility to work on their own schedules, meeting a few departmental deadlines. The intern will get a chance to work on a variety of projects including site designs, art pieces, photo archives development, and more. The intern will be assigned projects related to the development and management of the STM web site, marketing materials, etc. This is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new, rising, online publication.

Skills Background: The ideal candidate would have a working knowledge of some of the following applications (dreamweaver is key): Adobe Photoshop, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, FTP File Protocols, QuarkXpress, Microsoft Office 2000 Suite

Education - Working on AA or BA in graphic design, art studio, photography, web site design, or have equivalent knowledge.

Job Description - Considering a carrer in journalism, sport writing, or online or traditional print publications? Well you've found the ideal internships. STM is looking for a creative, out-of-box thinker/writer to join our write staff. The ideal candidate would have an understanding of or interest in learning how content is developed, written, and produced in a digital space. A working knowledge of soccer related news, info, and culture would greatly benefit someone in this position.

As a Jr. Writer, the intern would report directly to the Editor & Chief for task assignment. This is a telecommute position. The intern will need to have his or her own computer, necessary application (see below), email address, and reference materials.

General Duties: Content Development - Articles, Editing articles and site content § Creative Brainstorming on site content issuess, some fieldwork collecting data, conducting player interviews, etc…

Skills Background: The ideal candidate would have a working knowledge of the following: § Microsoft Office 2000 Suite, Content editing, strong language and written skills, some understanding of style of grammar (Chicago Style)

Education - Working on AA or BA in English, Journalism, Humanities, Sports Management, Marketing, or have equivalent knowledge.

Position: Photographer (two positions available)
Internships Length: 3 - 6 Months - to be negotiated
Average Hours Per Week: Range 2 - 10 hours
Job Description - An Intern photographer has the very cool job of gong to matches on game day to take pictures of players, coaches, and crowd to be published on the STM web site. The photographer will work with the SR, Art Director ensuring that the proper shots are taken and developed in accordance to site deadlines. This is a great chance to get your feet wet in the world of sports photography and makes connections in the industry that could last for years to come. A working knowledge of soccer related news, info, and culture would greatly benefit someone in this position.

As a Photographer, the intern would report directly to the Sr. Art Director for task assignment. This is a telecommute position. The intern will need to have his or her own computer, necessary application (see below), email address, and reference materials, and camera equipment.

General Duties: Take photos at soccer matches, functions, etc. § Assist in site art issues, Some fieldwork collecting data and photos.some photo liaison with outside news sources

Skills Background: The ideal candidate would have a working knowledge of the following: Photography, Understanding of human movement, light, and shadow, General Art Assistance, Love of Art

Education - Working on AA or BA in Photography, Art History, Art Studio, or equivalent knowledge.
